Snow Oyster (Pleurotus ostreatus) is a popular, fleshy, firm oyster variety with a sweet flavor and aroma that holds its shape when cooked. The taste of snow oyster mushrooms is very mild, and some even describe it as slightly woody and earthy. Snows oysters are great for beginners and are reliable indoor year-round producers. If kept in the right conditions, they will yield substantial first, second, and even third harvests (making them an ideal commercial variety!) When cultivated outdoors, they are a cold weather-loving species that tends to fruit in the cooler months.
Snow oyster grain spawn can be used for indoor production using sawdust or straw or outdoor production using straw or wood chips.
Do not use grain spawn for log inoculation.

Oyster mushroom grain spawn can be mixed into sterilized or lime pasteurized substrates including but not limited to hardwood sawdust, straw, and coffee grounds.
Note: Grain spawn must be mixed with bulk substrate before you can fruit it. If you are new to growing mushrooms, we recommend purchasing a book on mushroom cultivation.

Snow Oysters can easily replace button mushrooms in most recipes and pair well with many cuisines and flavors. Like all oyster mushrooms, they retain water and may develop a viscous texture when undercooked. If you prefer a firm or dryer texture, continue to cook them until their liquid has reduced and cooked off and they begin to brown.

Our grain spawn is USDA certified organic and made using organic cultures from our own culture bank. It contains a blend of locally sourced, organic, and non-GMO grains and supplements from farms in New England and North America.

If you’re going to consume home-grown mushrooms, make sure to cook your fresh mushrooms thoroughly with heat. If it is your first time eating this species, it is best to start with a small amount to check for allergies, even if cooked.

I love it
I ordered twice from this company, the first time I ordered was pink oyster spawn and the fruiting was amazing! I ordered a second which is this one, snow oyster, with two other type of spawns and some of it have finally fruit now. They gave a lot of spawn as well. The ship time is a little slow, but I guess it takes time to make the spawn and have it ready to ship out. My advice is order it a month before when you grow it.

Snow oysters
The spawn arrived when expected and as described. The weather in NYS was a bit cold so I had to store the spawn in my refrigerator for two weeks. The snow oyster mycelium was already growing in the bag before I could get it into my straw bed. I hope to be enjoying mushrooms in three months. I have other cultures in stump, logs and winecaps in wood chips. I am new to this and only got a few mushrooms from the log culture \in the first year but am hopeful that I will harvest a bounty this summer.

Perfect for outdoor beds in early spring
I must admit, this is pretty exciting stuff. This is my first time growing mushrooms outdoors in beds and this has been a really fun experience. The spawn arrived perfectly. They send you a good 5-6lbs so you get lots to experiment and play with. I’m in zone 9, with mild winters, and this beautiful grain spawn has gone directly into shady garden beds with straw. When your spawn arrives, they include all the info you need for how to store it until it’s ready for use. I can’t wait to order wine cap spawn next.
Excellent spawn
Spawn arrived healthy and rapidly expanded in substrate after inoculation. High confidence.
