Mother's Day Mushrooms

My son, daughter-in-law and I planted a wood-chip bed of wine cap mushrooms from North Spore and a "log cabin" of shiitake spore plugs from North Spore on Mother's Day. A terrific day spent together, and things are starting to happen. My son drilled the holes in the logs, followed by his wife tapping the plugs in and I followed up with the melted wax, applied with the Wool Daubers. Great teamwork and time well spent together.

Did the job!

I just inoculated a single 4' x 6" log with shiitake plugs and sealed with wax using these daubers. They seemed to hold just the right amount of melted wax with a minimum of dripping, and helped make quick work of the project - I'm sure they'd be especially useful for large projects!

So handy

Perfect size to do the job. Each one lasts a long time. The little metal handle doesn't carry heat to the fingers. I have unhooked the ends a little so it could grab the edge of my wax bowl and not fall in. Right tool for the job

Totally worth it. I don't really get why it work so much better, but the time saved is *well* worth the money if you have anything more than maybe 2 logs to seal. I like them so much that I'm trying to figure out how to best salvage the one I used for a 10-log project

Best method for waxing logs

Excellent tool for bees wax sealing of logs. I tried many Mathis’s including brushes and sponges but these work well, I used one for 12 logs with dozens of holes and I only used one, then disposed it.

The cotton is dense but very soft. Maybe I will buy these again for a different use.
