Mushrooms don't love full sun, but you can always find a space with broader-leafed plants which will accommodate a mushroom companion.
Ideal locations include aisles between beds, among plants, or shaded beds dedicated to fungal friends.
Spread straw or woodchips with at least 10% spawn (by weight).
Water daily or enough to ensure the bed doesn't dry out completely. Mushrooms need their environment to be as wet as a rung out sponge.
Depending on your climate and conditions you can expect to see mushrooms in 2 to 6 months.
The best garden bed location is NOT in full sun. Find a partially shady area or somewhere in your garden shaded by vegetation.
Lanes between beds are a perfect place if you can't dedicate an entire bed to mushrooms.
Spread straw or woodchips with at least 10% spawn (by weight).
Place plugs into pre-drilled holes and use a mallet / rubber hammer to smash them into the log.
Water daily or enough to ensure the bed doesn't dry out completely. Mushrooms need lots of water to fruit.
Depending on your climate and conditions you can expect to see mushrooms in 3 to 6 months.
Make your soil healthier AND produce an additional crop
Transform your unused space into an abundance of healthy, waste-free food

Excellent Production
"I made my first mushroom beds with these. Despite not being an expert and making a few mistakes these started producing today, just 3 months after I made the bed. I thought for sure my chickens were ruining it as they liked to dig holes in the wood chips and soak up the cool moisture underneath. Not the case!"

Growing great in Salt Lake
"Started two mushroom beds outdoors for the first time this past May, both Blue Oyster and Wine Cap and the oysters were far and away the winners! I made roughly 3x3 ft bed with choopped straw, about 6inches thick...Will definitely be growing these in the garden again."

My first Mushroom Bed!
"I wasn't able to plant my mushroom garden until the 4th of July-ish due to work and life. And to be honest... I haven't been the best mushroom ma because I didn't water my garden nearly as much as I should've during dry spells. However, yesterday (9/23) when I went out to water my pumpkins, I found three fresh wine caps waiting for me! I give all the credit to North Spore for putting out such quality products. I am super excited to expand my garden next year!"
- Joey
Pleasantly Surprised!
"I got a bag of wine caps around May and planted it in a stock tank with tomatoes and sun flowers. I wasn't expecting them to grow until the end of September, and I had my doubts what with living in Montana and some things refuse to grow here, but they produced multiple delicious flushes throughout the season. They truly are garden giants and they really do taste like potatoes! It is excellent in soups."
