Our USDA-certified organic lion's mane (Hericium erinaceus) grain spawn features a strain that produces plump, dense, shaggy mushroom clusters with a consistency and flavor similar to crab meat. This mushroom is highly versatile and can be enjoyed cooked, dried, extracted, or even steeped as a tea! While slightly more difficult to get flushes than oysters, they are great for confident beginners and are reliable indoor year-round producers. And, if kept in the right conditions, they will yield substantial first, second, and even third harvests (making them an ideal commercial variety!) Note that lion's mane can be prone to drying out if the ambient humidity is too low.

Recommended use:
- Lion's mane grain spawn can be used for indoor production using sawdust-based sterile substrate.
- Do not use grain spawn for log inoculation.
- This is not a mushroom grow kit. Lion's mane grain spawn must be combined with a substrate in order to fruit.
Upon receiving your spawn:
Remove it from the shipping box as soon as possible. Then, unfold the top of the bag, making room for air space. It's also important to check and confirm that the filter patch is not obstructed. This will help the organism breathe and continue to thrive!

- Primordia - The earliest recognizable stage of fruitbody development. Also known as “baby mushrooms” or “mushroom pins.”

Indoor cultivation
Lion's mane mushroom grain spawn can be mixed into sterilized hardwood sawdust to create lion's mane substrate blocks.
Note: Grain spawn must be mixed with bulk substrate before you can fruit it. If you are new to growing mushrooms, we recommend purchasing a book on mushroom cultivation.

Three of the 4 grain spawn were fully colonized. The shitake shown little colonization and has not made progress yet. This has not been the typical level of quality that I have come to expect from North Spore.

This was the first mushroom I grew in my Martha tent and they were great producers! It was a good learning experience to try and dial in my FAE settings, so mine were a bit (ok, a lot!) leggy, but they were still super strong strains and produced a ton of flushes!

Nothing yet! The maitaki blocks I purchased and inoculated so far I got 2 that sprouted. They were taken care of the blocks in the same manner. I guess we'll need to see what happens.

So happy with how well this spawn is working out. My son and I are total newbies and not totally sure what we are doing. It is great to start with a reliable quality healthy product. (Then we know if we screw something up it's more likely to be us rather than a sub par product.) We have lots to learn, but we can see our flush starting now so I think we really did it this time. first tried the spore syringe with no growth after 3 weeks. grain spawn has new growth after a week. cultivation on easy mode.
