The Opinel No. 8 is a classic French foraging and harvesting knife. All of us at North Spore carry an Opinel on our mushroom forays! They also make a great gift for the forager or mushroom cultivator in your life.

Sharp, reliable, and lightweight, the brush on the bottom of the handle makes cleaning mushrooms in the field or log yard a breeze (saving the harvester from the annoyance of dirty mushrooms spreading dirt onto cleaner mushrooms in their bags or baskets!) It's the perfect for foraging and harvesting both delicate and sturdy mushrooms including morels, chanterelles, porcinis, oyster mushrooms, shiitake, and more!

Perfect harvesting knife

I love this knife for its shape and its ability to hold a sharp edge. Getting the blade around the mushroom specimens is much easier with the curve, and it holds as sharp an edge as you want to put on it. The little debris brush on the handle is the perfect blend of stiff and soft bristles for ease of removing dirt and debris from the mushroom without damaging it. If you’re into harvesting mushrooms on any level, this is a great have. 😎

Not as sharp as I thought it would be after spending this much money on it. Honestly, I kinda have to saw at my mushroom stems, which is less than ideal. It would be nice if it was sharper and cut through mushrooms easier, considering that’s what it’s for…

Absolutely perfect for harvesting mushrooms. It comes with a brush at the end to wipe away any dirt after harvesting. The blade has a nice curve to it which allows you to scoop nicely at the base of any shroom. allowing you to get a clean cut! Love the knife and have been using it for a few months now!!!
