Aggressive Genetics

Wine cap are known for their rigorous growth and decomp of organic matter and North Spore has kept those genes strong and healthy. After testing out the wine cap saw dust spawn I wanted to test the LC syringe and boy am I impressed! I scavenged some fine hardwood shavings from a family workshop and simply hydrated them and placed them in a grow bag and inoculated. Colonized fully in just over a week and is now actively breaking down the organic matter in my garden beds. Would definitely recommend this mushroom for improving soil since it can migrate more aggressively than other mushrooms. Thanks North Spore!

So great to hear you have had success with your Wine Caps, Cole! Don't hesitate to reach out to us if you ever need anything!

Blue Oyster and Wine Cap liquid cultures have arrived! Woo-Hoo!

My experience exceeded my expectations! I sent an email explaining the fact that I am new to mushroom growing! I am going to grow the mushrooms outdoors so I had many questions and concerns. My conversation with Lou addressed everything ... including assistance on which varieties (for newbies he suggested Blue Oyster and Wine Cap) I could grow in given locations ... what the varieties needed to grow and so much more. Believe me, please, I studied the North Spore website for weeks! I watched every video so could ask questions that made sense and applied to MY situation (remember, I am new to this). Lou was very patient with me and explained everything. I know I will have more questions but I know the concerns will be addressed completely.
I retired yesterday and have begun to get my garden area ready for vegetables and mushrooms (lasagna!). I am also putting more mulch around my oak trees and in the more shaded areas around my deck. Tonight it dawned on me that I could hang buckets on the branches of the oaks, it's shady there! I still have some things to purchase for my projects but it's still early.
I will be expanding the liquid syringes using the broth recipe found on the North Spore website. While I was waiting for the LC to arrive I made two batches of "soup".
I will update this review as the season progresses. Until then, thank you Lou. Thank you so much, you made me feel like family. God Bless you and everyone at North Spore! Big Hugs!

Thanks for sharing, Kay! We love to read reviews like this! It makes what we do all the more worth it.

Lovely product

I used half of this syringe to successfully inoculate my grain spawn bag, the other half I gave to my parents. They're currently using it to inoculate sawdust and plant it in their raspberry and asparagus garden this spring. It worked well for me, I have no doubts that it'll work well for them as well here in Wisconsin (barring any mishaps, of course).

Thanks for sharing, Nathan! If you need help with anything, please reach out.

Wine Cap LC

Bought a Wine Cap syringe in July after a few glasses of, well, real wine.....Waaay too early for growing in Central Texas, but that's just how I roll!

Getting on towards the fall now so I'm expanding said syringe onto an agar plate (about to try making my first slants, we'll see how that goes! Love this hobby and all the science-adjacent experimenting I get to do!) and some 4% Malt Extract/Dextrose Liquid Culture jars. Happy to report the jars are full of happy little mycelium blobs - excellent quality stuff as always North Spore! Next step is to expand further onto several bags of grain using those floating clouds of shroomy goodness.

As soon as my furthest back raised vegetable beds are shaded I'll dig them out and put about 5" of pasteurized straw down, add a grain bag and give it a good mix, layer in some pre-soaked alder and pecan chips combined with another bag of grain and top the whole bed off with a layer of straw mulch. Hopefully we'll finally get some rain by then, but if not I'll keep it watered from the rain barrels until it's fully colonized.

Best part is, gonna leave the bed inoculated for the spring veggies! Hopefully they'll continue to grow under a canopy of San Marzano's and help the tomato roots uptake even more nutrients! Gotta love that symbiotic nature of plants and fungi!

Can't wait 'til harvest time to see what I get first flush, then see how the different organism's help feed each other! Science Rules!!!!

Excellent Product

Was worried about ordering mycelium because of the heat dome Texas is in right now. Shipment came in fast, was packaged great and the culture arrived happy and healthy! Can't wait to inoculate my garden beds in the fall for a spring harvest!

Wine Cap

After I ordered the Wine Cap syringe I put it in the fridge and after a month I finally got set up to use it. I was very impressed with how rich in mycelium the syringe was and it aggressively colonized the grain bag, I couldn't be happier with this purchase Thank You Northspore!
