In early 2019, before Covid-19 made international travel near impossible, I spent some time in South East Asia and had a chance to visit two innovative mushroom farms: Chiang Mai Organic Mushroom Farm and CordyFarmacy. Both are family-owned and operated farms in Thailand, but each is taking a radically different approach to mushroom cultivation.
Chiang Mai Organic Mushroom Farm is a small indoor / outdoor farm in Northern Thailand that cultivates a wide range of edible species including Straw Mushroom (Volvariella volvacea) and Oyster Mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus).
The daughter of the farm owner and manager, Namtaan Worapitcha, showed me how she cultures mushrooms on agar, grows straw mushrooms with banana tree trunk and rice straw, and cultivates oyster mushrooms. Chiang Mai Organic Mushroom Farm also sells mushroom spawn from their farm, so if you're in Northern Thailand you can purchase it directly from them.
CordyFarmacy is an indoor cordyceps (Cordyceps militaris) farm outside of Bangkok. Cordyceps is a renowned medicinal mushroom that is continuing to gain traction in the U.S. for its energy and vitality-boosting properties. The owners, Boy and M, showed me around their impeccably clean and organized indoor farm. It was the first time I had ever seen a cordyceps grow with walls of jars and orange finger-shaped fungi. Their dried whole cordyceps make a delicious medicinal tea and whole fruit body supplements are potent and high-quality.

I am in North Queensland Australia and would love to visit and learn. Is this possible?
Looking for straw syringe. So I can order it with the grill bags and start growing up for my wife
Hi Sharon Tucker, yes cordyceps has been traditionally been grown on such substrate. Unfortunately, we don’t have any plans to create kits in this species as of now, the cultures need very specific care. Hopefully one day though!
Isn’t cordyceps the fungus that infects insects, making them act crazy, then growing out of their heads? I have read that they are delicious! Please offer these in grow kits! I want one and I know my daughter will too!
Nice to see the Thai visit my cousin Steve at Freeland Foundation has taught people to grow mushrooms moving folks away from trading in endangered wildlife.

Hi
I have just moved from the UK to live in Thailand. My girlfriend has a farm in Buri Ram and we plan to start growing mushrooms. I had a mushroom growing business in the UK so have a lot of experience. I’m looking to purchase spawn or liquid culture in Thailand to get started. May be you could help me find a good supplier.
Kind Regards
Mike
My fave part of the world. Lived 25 years in SE Asia.
Know about anything going on in Indonesia?
Where is there info on growing using some kind of Bamboo substrate?
Thank you.
Wonderful and pleasant video. Thank you North Spore for seeking and sharing such valuable knowledge in a professional and clear manner.
Also a HUGE thank you to Namtaan, Boy, and M for welcoming foreigners onto your farm and sharing your knowledge so openly with them. One love <3
Man those Cordyfarmacy guys have their setup totally dialed, that is WAY professional and clean. Interesting how thin their substrate is when they add the LC, just a small amount of material in those bottles creates such a nice dense flush.
value for a better understanding. Thank you
Is there a written version of the video? It was hard for me to follow…so interesting I would love to know more.
Nice content. Glad to see a company investing in knowledge and travel
