Job Title: Director of Marketing
About the Role:
We're seeking a data- and hypothesis-driven Director of Marketing to lead North Spore’s
e-commerce growth strategy. You will own conversion rate optimization (CRO), site testing,
merchandising strategy, and pricing initiatives across our DTC website—and manage a small
team executing against those initiatives. This is a cross-functional role that blends product
thinking, analytics, and marketing execution to drive measurable growth.
You’ll manage and mentor an E-commerce Manager (focused on site execution, merchandising,
and product set-up).
Key Responsibilities:
Growth Strategy & Roadmapping
● Develop and own the e-commerce growth roadmap—aligned to North Spore’s goals across AOV, conversion rate, and LTV.
● Build and lead execution of a growth roadmap including all testing and implementation of performant tests
● Identify bottlenecks in the purchase journey and propose experiments to remove friction.
Team Leadership
● Manage, coach, and support an E-commerce Manager.
● Set clear goals and KPIs for the team and ensure alignment with broader growth objectives.
● Foster a culture of ownership, testing, and continuous improvement.
Product Optimization & CRO
● Own website optimization strategy: page layouts, PDP enhancements, bundle logic, variant structures, and upsell paths.
● Partner with design/dev to launch A/B tests and UX updates that improve funnel performance.
● Develop hypotheses based on behavioral data and execute test-and-learn cycles to validate.
● Leverage segmentation and cohort analysis to improve retention and cross-sell effectiveness.
Merchandising & Pricing Strategy
● Analyze product performance to inform pricing changes, kit configurations, and promotions.
● Partner with Product and Inventory teams to identify growth opportunities in the catalog.
Cross-Functional Execution
● Collaborate with marketing, design/dev, customer service, and ops to execute growth experiments.
● Work closely with the Lifecycle manager to integrate lifecycle programs (email/SMS flows, replenishment nudges, loyalty) into the overall growth strategy.
You’ll Be Successful If You...
● Think like a product owner—balancing customer experience with business outcomes.
● Are comfortable in spreadsheets and dashboards—and know how to turn data into next steps.
● Spend your free time creating teams of specialized AI agents to execute your vision
● Thrive in test-and-learn environments and know how to run lean experiments quickly.
● Enjoy mentoring and managing others to execute with excellence.
● Are obsessed with optimizing the little details that add up to big growth.
Qualifications
● 5–8 years of experience in e-commerce growth, product, or performance marketing roles
● At least 1–2 years of experience managing direct reports or leading cross-functional pods
● Proven experience driving DTC growth through experimentation, site optimization, and merchandising
● Strong analytical toolkit: Excel/Sheets, GA4, Looker or similar BI tools
● Familiarity with Shopify (or similar CMS), Klaviyo, and modern marketing stacks
● Bonus: Experience with fungi, food/agriculture, or enthusiast/hobbyist brands
Why Join North Spore?
● Be at the forefront of the mycology movement and help shape an emerging category.
● Join a tight-knit, values-driven team with a passion for science, sustainability, and curiosity.
● Work in a fast-growing, omnichannel environment with opportunity to shape strategy from the ground up.
