Wild Foraged Chaga Mushroom Tea

Uses | Inflammation, immunity, energy |
Maine is blessed to host one of the most esteemed medicinal mushrooms in the world: Inonotus obliquus, known more commonly as chaga. Considered one of the three "mushrooms of immortality," chaga naturally possesses a host of medicinal properties, which include essential b-complex vitamins, potassium, and beta glucans (to name a few).
Chaga is considered a super-food, packed with antioxidants that help boost immunity, stimulate the production of natural energy, and support overall health.‡ Among the numerous health benefits found in wild chaga, probably the most important medicinal compound is betulinic acid, which has been studied for its natural anti-inflammatory, anti-fatigue, and immune boosting effects.*
Crafting our tea:
Our tea features wild chaga foraged from local forests in Maine that we air dry and hand grind. When the chaga has hardened and lost its moisture content, we prepare it using a turn-of-the-century food mill, then hand package it. All of our chaga is ethically wildcrafted so as not to deplete the ecosystem from which it was harvested.

Simmer 1 tbsp in 4-6 cups of water for at least 20 minutes, or until the water is opaque and resembles back coffee. Strain the grounds out of the water and set aside. Grounds may be reused 2 or 3 times (make sure to simmer for extra time or follow the 'looks like black coffee' rule). Add cream and maple syrup to taste.

Do not consume if you are allergic to mushrooms.
While mushroom extracts are natural, it’s important that you consult a physician before taking any supplement if you have a health condition or are taking prescription medications. Chaga can potentially interact with medications prescribed to suppress the immune system, regulate blood clotting, and regulate blood sugar.

We're so glad you're enjoying the tea, Tam! Thanks for sharing the picture!

Best Chaga Tea!
This Chaga tea is the best I have tasted! We are able to get two strong brews from each tablespoon, saving the grounds in the refrigerator between batches. The tea has a pleasant, earthy fragrance and a light, smooth flavour. We have sweetened ours with xylitol, maple syrup, and monkfruit, all of which have blended perfectly. Right now we are drinking it cold (being Summer), but we are looking forward to trying it with some warming spices this Fall and Winter! The fact that you can get more than one steep from each tablespoon means you are definitely getting your money's worth, as each jar will last longer!

Great taste!
I was expecting this to taste more mushroom-y than it did- they really got the flavors right in their description! You could give this to someone who isn't into mushrooms and they would still enjoy it. It's good with maple syrup like they suggest, but a pine or spruce syrup is even better in it!
I like it!
Actually taste pretty good. I like to add honey and milk which rounds out the flavor.

Household favorite
I have had this for a while, tried it once and liked it and forgot about it because we got too busy. But now, my husband and I have been taking time at night to relax with a cup of this tea. It makes us feel great and it tastes wonderful with coconut cream!

Enjoyable tea
My wife and have enjoyed this tea with a little honey. I especially like it when I want something similar to coffee without the drawbacks.

An unexpected love
I wasn’t sure what to expect with this but I have to say it’s a new found love! If your thinking of getting it and follow the directions I will say for myself it tastes like brown sugar maple wheat thin cereal milk. So if you are into that you will like it!

I’ve often wondered....
How Chaga tasted and ‘worked’. Now I have both enjoyed the tea and learned more thru North Spore. I wish there was a way to inoculate some of our trees ! ( we have a small family farm with nice hardwood and a few birch). Thank you North Spore for your desire to spread the shroom word!

Great tea
I fully expected this to be a "hold your nose and swallow" tea that was more about the health benefits of Chaga and less about the taste. But, wow! I was wrong. The taste is incredible, very similar to a black tea. Throw in some cream or milk and maple syrup and its dessert-like. Even my kids, ages 11 and 8, love to drink this tea. The tea comes in a little container which is the perfect size to store away. The instructions are straightforward. I have no problem straining the grounds or just letting them settle in the pan and scoop out the tea above it. This tea is a great way to get a daily dose of Chaga, especially through out the winter. My family and I will be drinking this for a long time.
