Use the same professional-grade tools we use in our commercial mycology lab! These sterile needles are meant to be used with our sterile mycology syringes.

We offer needles in two sizes to accommodate a variety of needs:
• 16 gauge
• 14 gauge

*Warning: handle sharps with care - recommended for customers 18+ only

Size Differences

16 Gauge Needle

Best for projects where you need better flow than a standard needle but want to minimize damage to ports.

Common uses:

  • Thick Liquid Culture (LC): Perfect for drawing up LC that has moderate mycelium growth without constantly clogging.
  • Faster Inoculations: Great for moving liquid quickly between jars when high precision isn't the priority.

Why it’s ideal: It is the "middle ground" heavy lifter. It creates a balance between allowing thicker mycelium to pass through and not destroying your self-healing injection ports (SHIPs) as quickly as a 14ga would.

14 Gauge Needle

Best for projects where you're using slurries or thicker liquids.

Common use:

  • Aggressive LC work: When your liquid culture is extremely dense/ropey and creates immediate blockages in smaller needles.

Why it’s ideal: It is essentially a pipe. It offers zero resistance and makes it almost impossible to clog, even with chunky biological material.

Important Note on "Coring":

14ga needles are massive. They can permanently damage self-healing injection ports (leaving a hole that doesn't seal) and can actually cut small circles out of rubber stoppers (coring), which can push contaminants into your jar. Use with caution on sealed lids.
