These chemical-free, non-sterilized, un-inoculated 1" fluted hardwood dowels are ideal for mushroom plug spawn production. Aside from being kiln dried, dowels are not treated in any other way.
Note: Dowel may be fluted or spiral. These plugs do not contain mushroom mycelium.

For Shiitake Spawn
After a simple 24 hour soak my shiitake spawn took nicely to the dowels. Full colonization of in a unicorn bag took just under a month with grain spawn transfer.

Bought 2500 plugs for making shiitake plugs to use for myself and give as gifts. I had looked at a couple other places, mostly woodworking suppliers and North Spore was around the same price and I needed to pick up the angle grinder adapter anyway. Plugs were shipped and delivered promptly and as expected in 5 ziplock bags with (I assume) 500 plugs in each, which was convenient since I don't have to weigh and separate them out -- just soak overnight and put into filter patch bags to sterilize.
