7 pc. Stainless Steel Mycology Lab Instrument Set
Our mycology lab instrument set was designed to make mushroom cloning, culturing, and general laboratory work easy. Each kit is housed in a zippered carrying case for easy portability and contains the following corrosion resistant stainless steel instruments, including needle-nose tweezers, straight-blade scissors, a knife with integrated blade, an inoculation loop, a groove scalpel handle with metric ruler, a flat scalpel handle, and (4) sterile scalpel blades.
Cotton Wick Spirit Lamp Alcohol Burner Set
This stainless, corrosion-resistant alcohol burner (aka "spirit lamp") features an easy-to-replace cotton wick with adjustable flame. Each burner comes with a stainless base and polished chromed snuffer cap for putting out the flame. Burners use 90% ethanol and contain a 95 ml fuel reservoir. 90% ethanol can be found in most local hardware stores. (Note: DO NOT use drug store rubbing alcohol.) We recommend lighting the flame with a butane torch lighter or safety lighter instead of matches to prevent accidental burns.
Black Powder-Free Nitrile Gloves
Comfortable, soft, and incredibly flexible, our black industrial-grade nitrile laboratory gloves are designed to allow for puncture resistance while maintaining tactile sensitivity. Gloves are powder free, latex free, and hypoallergenic. Materials are also compliant with FDA regulations for food contact, making them ideal for mushroom growers. Gloves are designed for ambidextrous use and can be used by both right and left-handed individuals.
WARNING: Using an open flame in a still air box comes with risk, especially when using flammable liquids or aerosols (including, but not limited to, ethanol and isopropyl alcohol.) To reduce the risk of accidental ignition from an open flame after cleaning surfaces with an alcohol solution, give ample time for the surface to dry completely before using. This is to allow any trace of the alcohol solution to dissipate from the surfaces and surrounding air.
-
- Ethanol poses a dangerous fire risk if used incorrectly.
- Only use 90% ethanol as burner fuel. The use of other substitutes could result in serious injury.
- Do not light the burner if any ethanol leaks.
- Wear goggles, gloves, and a chemical-resistant apron when handling ethanol.
- Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling ethanol.
- Only use the burner in a well-ventilated area.
- Use a butane torch or safety lighter to prevent accidental burns.
-
- To avoid accidental cuts, extreme care must be always taken when attaching and removing the scalpel blades.
- Keep all instruments away from pets and children.
- To prevent contamination, always sterilize your instruments before use.
WARNING:
- Low pH detergents may breakdown the stainless protective surface and cause black staining.
- High pH detergents may cause surface deposits of brown stains, which can interfere with the smooth operation of the instrument.
-
Before sterilizing, clean instruments using the following protocol:
- Rinse off any fluids or tissues with water.
- Manually clean instruments with a soft plastic brush and a pH neutral detergent. (Never use steel wool or wire brushes.)
- Thoroughly dry instruments with a clean towel. (This will minimize the risk of corrosion and water spots.)
WARNING:
- Low pH detergents may breakdown the stainless protective surface and cause black staining.
- High pH detergents may cause surface deposits of brown stains, which can interfere with the smooth operation of the instrument.
-
We recommend cleaning between each use to keep all surfaces as sterile as possible.
- Remove any spills using a damp cloth and mild cleanser.
- Sanitize by spraying with a 70% isopropyl alcohol solution inside and out. Allow ample time to dry.
- DO NOT use bleach or abrasives.
