Mushroom Capsule FAQ

North Spore mushroom extract capsules

Section 01

Basics

How many servings are in one bottle?

Each bottle contains 60 servings, which is a 60-day supply.

What size are the capsules?

Each capsule is 2 cm (0.79 inches) long and contains 500 mg.

How potent are your capsules?

The industry standard is single extraction at a 1:1 ratio — meaning 1 gram of mushroom material is used to make 1 gram of extract.

Our high potency capsules contain up to an 8:1 ratio, delivering 8× the medicinal compounds of the original dried mushroom. We recommend 1 high potency capsule per serving (500 mg of extract).

Our Lion's Mane and Turkey Tail capsules use a 1:1 ratio, for which we recommend 2 capsules per serving — providing a total of 1000 mg (1 gram) of extract as your daily dose.

How should I store my mushroom extract capsules?

Store in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight.

Do your mushroom extract capsules have any scent or flavor?

Capsules have a slight earthy scent and flavor, similar to mushroom tincture — though much milder.

What are the capsules packaged in?

The bottle is made from recyclable tempered glass and the lid is made from recyclable polypropylene (PP).

Ingredients & certifications

Are your mushroom extract capsules certified organic?

Yes. Our capsules are certified by Organic Certifiers — USDA accredited and ISO 17065, certifying the organic community since 1996 and among the first USDA-accredited certifiers in 2002.

Are your mushroom extract capsules vegan?

Yes. The only ingredients are organic mushroom extracts and pullulan — a polysaccharide obtained from natural fermentation of plant extracts.

Are your mushroom extract capsules non-GMO?

No genetically modified organisms are used in the manufacturing of our supplements.

Are your mushroom extract capsules Kosher?

Yes, they are certified Kosher.

Do your mushroom extract capsules contain preservatives?

No, they do not contain any preservatives.

Why do you use extracts instead of dried mushrooms?

Non-extracted mushroom products contain chitin, an indigestible fiber that reduces the bioavailability of medicinal compounds. Extracts ensure you receive exponentially more of the beneficial compounds found in each species.

Why are extracts made from fruiting bodies and sclerotia instead of mycelium?

Mycelium grown on grain contains low quantities of beta-glucans, high amounts of starch, and few secondary metabolites. To ensure maximum potency and absorption, our capsules are made with concentrated certified organic extracts from 100% fruiting bodies and sclerotia.

Read more about fruiting bodies vs. mycelium.

What is sclerotia?

Sclerotia is a compact mass of hardened fungal mycelium containing food reserves for the mushroom. Some species, like chaga, form a sclerotia which is harvested for its medicinal compounds.

Testing & quality

Are your mushroom extract capsules third-party tested?

Yes. Each lot is tested prior to encapsulation and comes with a third-party Certificate of Analysis:

Do you test for medicinal compounds?

Yes. Beta-glucans (β-1,3/1,6) are measured prior to encapsulation and verified by a third-party Certificate of Analysis.

Do you test for microbes and heavy metals?

Yes. Each lot is tested prior to encapsulation with a third-party Certificate of Analysis screening for: Mold, Yeast, Coliforms, E. Coli, Staph. Aureus, Salmonella, Lead, Inorganic Arsenic, Cadmium, and Mercury.

Do you test for allergens?

Our supplements contain only mushroom extracts and pullulan, so we do not test for allergens like milk, dairy, nuts, or gluten.
