'Harbor Blue' oyster (Pleurotus ostreatus) is a very productive commercial strain of blue oyster from Pennsylvania that fruits dense clusters with dark grayish-blue caps. It produces best in cooler temperatures but also performs well during the warmer months. Averages 1-2 lbs first flush off of 5 lb supplemented sawdust blocks but will also produce off sterilized straw substrate.
Our liquid culture syringes are ~10ml and come sealed in a plastic sleeve with a sterile 16 gauge needle and alcohol wipe.
About liquid culture:
Liquid culture is mycelium suspended in a nutrient-rich medium. Syringes are beginner-friendly and ideal for those looking for an easy way to inoculate grain bags and jars.
Using liquid culture:
For best results, refrigerate upon receipt. Syringes should be inserted into a self-healing injection port. Always handle using sterile technique and shake thoroughly before use. We recommended inoculation in either a still air box or flow hood to reduce the possibility of contamination. If you plan to re-use your needle, sterilize before and after each subsequent use.

Blue oyster culture syringe
I received a nice, healthy culture. I have yet to fruit these, but I expanded the culture and it was able to quickly colonize a mason jar of nutrient broth

Fantastic culture, beautiful mushrooms!
I chose this culture for my first foray into creating my own grain spawn since oysters are known as a good beginner strain and the blue variety is more cold tolerant. So far it’s been incredibly easy to work with—my brown rice spawn colonized very quickly and I’ve been experimenting with maintaining the culture on DIY agar dishes. I’ve had great success fruiting these both on pasteurized straw and in jars of used coffee grounds. In short, this is an excellent culture to learn mushroom cultivation!
