Golden Oyster (Pleurotus citrinopileatus) is a tropical strain that thrives in warmer temperatures and tends to fruit in summer months. It produces beautiful clusters of bright yellow caps that are a favorite at farmers' markets. When cooked, they have a mild nutty flavor and aroma that pairs well with most dishes. Oyster mushrooms are great for beginners because they colonize quickly and are reliable producers. They are also ideal for commercial cultivation, especially when grown on straw.
Golden oyster sawdust spawn can be used for log projects and/or outdoor beds and containers.
Sawdust spawn is ideal for larger log projects of 10 or more logs.

Golden oysters prefer log, stump, and totem methods. Colonization is fast and should start producing in 4-12 months. Golden oysters are a tropical species and prefer to fruit in the summer months. They also prefer softer hardwoods such as poplar and aspen.

If you don’t plan to use your golden oyster sawdust spawn right away, store in the refrigerator. Use within 6 months of receipt.
Golden oyster mushrooms develop a cashew-like flavor when cooked to a slightly crispy texture. They can easily replace button mushrooms in most recipes and pair well with many cuisines and flavors. Like all oyster mushrooms, they retain water and may develop a viscous texture when undercooked. If you prefer a firm or dryer texture, continue to cook them until their liquid has reduced and cooked off and they begin to brown.
All our spawn is made using organic cultures from our own culture bank. Our sawdust spawn is handmade from a blend of locally sourced, all-natural, organic, and non-GMO woods and supplements from farms and forests in New England and North America.
If you’re going to consume home-grown mushrooms, make sure to cook your fresh mushrooms thoroughly with heat. If it is your first time eating this species, it is best to start with a small amount to check for allergies, even if cooked.

Golden Oyster on Maple Chips
Bought the sawdust spawn and planted it per instructions in layered 2 week old maple chipped branch wood. Have been checking them about every 3 days or so on my wooded lot since planting some 7 weeks back. There were none in the bed 4 days ago but tonight I saw there were about half a dozen clusters. Unfortunately all but one cluster had "gone over" but the ones that were fresh look and smell just great, bright golden color! As many others have said, you need to be checking at least every couple of days to catch them while they are fresh!

I started a 3' x 2' straw bed with the golden oyster sawdust spawn on 5/15 and was able to harvest first flush on 7/7, only 53 days later, and I live in the mountains of Vermont so it was a much colder spring than where I used to live. Also started a 2.5' x 2.5' wood chip bed of the wine cap that is completely colonized by now and should be on target to fruit sometime in August I think. Besides the quality spawn, the customer service is beyond great. They answer any questions you may have, sometimes literally within minutes.
Growing Golden Oysters in a laundry basket
In mid March this year I purchased a bag of sawdust Golden Oyster Spawn. After watching your videos and getting timely advice from you, I used some laundry baskets with a mixture of straw and used coffee grounds to build my mushroom farm. I watered them regularly and was patient. My patience was rewarded when at the end of May I started to get mushrooms. I wanted to let you know how much I appreciated the quality of the spawn. and how clear your instructions were. Based on my great experience with you I purchased Shitake plug spawn. for my logs. I know that will take longer but I am looking forward to a great harvest. Thanks again for enabling people like me to grow and enjoy mushrooms. If there are any t-shirts left I would like a large.
