Difficulty: Beginner
Golden Oysters are a great mushroom for beginners. They are reliable producers during the warmer months and can be produced commercially.
Cooking: Golden Oysters can easily replace button mushrooms in most recipes and pair well with many cuisines and flavors. Like all Oyster mushrooms, they retain water and may develop a viscous texture when undercooked. If you prefer a firm or dryer texture, continue to cook Golden Oysters until their liquid has reduced and cooked off and they begin to brown. Golden Oyster mushrooms develop a cashew-like flavor when cooked to a slightly crispy texture.
Properties: The Golden Oyster mushroom has a high protein content, several B vitamins, and all the essential amino acids (Marley, 2009). Its medicinal benefits include promoting anti-tumor activity and lowering high cholesterol. Oyster mushroom fruiting bodies and distillations have been shown to reduce tumor size in several studies on mice, rats, and hamsters (Hobbs, 1995). Additionally, Oyster mushrooms have been used in the Czech Republic as the main ingredient in a dietary supplement used to treat high cholesterol (Hobbs, 1995). Studies in animals have shown that a diet of Oyster mushrooms reduced the development of plaque in major arteries (Bobek et al., 1995).

Beautiful colonization
fantastic spawn, haven't had any problems and am seeing fast colonization
High quality golden oyster spawn. Colonized very quickly and fruited in about 2-3 weeks. I would recommend this strain to any first time growers.
I have ordered the Golden Oyster & Lions Mane “spray & grow” kits for my counter...I got multiple flushes of delicious mushrooms, then buried them in a flower bed in my yard. They are still both producing mushrooms. I have gotten 8 fruitings this summer alone. I just ordered the sawdust spawn and put another bed in...will continue to buy products from North Spore!
I'm a father of two inquisitive boys and am always encouraging them to keep life interesting with growing, building, and fixing projects. We've done some little mushroom kits in the past and decided to dive into growing this time and ordered the Golden Oyster mushroom grain spawn a couple months ago. We set up 2 perforated bucket and aspen chip growing setups, and layered it into the sterilized+hydrated chips once the grain spawn came in (it was actually from the discount section but still colonized aggressively and flushed very fast! No signs of contamination!). We just ate our first flush of beautiful golden mushrooms from the grow this evening (only 4 weeks in!) and it seems to be gearing up for another flush already with new pins forming in the holes lower on the bucket! The second bucket colonized well and is getting ready to flush soon from the looks of it. The mycelium smells and looks really happy in there. It's been a great project and we will be trying to keep the culture alive. We ordered a pressure cooker to sterilize some of our bird seed and maybe cracked corn to see if we can get pieces of the existing mycelium to colonize it and let us produce more batches going forward. Either way, no worries, we will certainly be back. There are other varieties here we want to try! Thanks for this, it's been a fun, tasty, and a very educational adventure for us 10, 15, and 36 year old kids. :) "..for all Hobbits share a love of things that grow." -John, Luke, and Owen
