Product Storage FAQ

Spray & Grow Kits

Inside your Spray & Grow Kit is a living organism, so we recommend activating it upon receipt. If you need to wait, you can store them in the fridge for up to 6 months.

All of the species used in our kits are very vigorous and viable, so after storing for a few weeks, they may start growing mushrooms inside the box! It's no issue, but some recipients can be surprised or concerned which is why we have activation and storage recommendations.

Fruiting Block Kits

Fruiting blocks should be used within 1 week of receipt. If you don't plan to use immediately, you can refrigerate your block for up to 6 months.

Note: Shiitake blocks can only be stored until the block turns dark brown, at which time they must be used.

Grain Spawn

If you don't plan to use immediately, you can refrigerate your spawn for up to 4 months.

Only open your spawn bag when you are ready to use it. Opening it prematurely will increase the risk of it molding.

It is not ideal to use spawn for more than one inoculation day.

Shroomtek

If kept at room temperature and out of direct sunlight, a Shroomtek All-in-One Grow Bag can be stored for several months before use.

Let your Shroomtek All-in-One Grow Bag sit for 1-2 weeks before injection. This will expose any issues that may have occurred in shipping and prevent wasted spores or culture syringes. If you do find that your product is compromised, please email us.

Sterilized Grain Bag

If kept at room temperature and out of direct sunlight, a Sterilized Grain Bag can be stored for several months before use.

Let your sterilized grain bag with injection port sit for 1-2 weeks before injection. This will expose any issues that may have occurred in shipping and prevent wasted spores or culture syringes. If you do find that your product is compromised, please email us.

Boomr Bag & Wood Lovr

If kept at room temperature and out of direct sunlight, Boomr Bag and Wood Lovr can be stored for several months before use.

Pre-Poured Agar

Store your unused dishes upside down in the refrigerator, and your slants upright in the refrigerator. It’s best to keep them in their original container to prevent contamination. In the absence of a refrigerator, store them in a cold room.

Check for condensation from time to time. Condensation in the plates means there is a heat source driving out water from the agar, which will dry it out quickly. Let your plates equilibrate to room temperature before use.

Cultures & Syringes

Plate cultures can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 6 months. If your culture has been stored for longer than 4 months, we recommend checking the viability of the culture before use.

Liquid cultures can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 months.

Slant cultures can be stored long term in cryostorage, or up to a year in the refrigerator.

NOTE: Pink oyster, almond agaricus and Pestalotiopsis microspora cultures cannot be refrigerated. Store these cultures at room temperature and use within 1 month of receipt.
